« How to post to a discussion forum

Click on the Discussion Question link to open the Discussion Forum. Note the specific instructions on how to answer the Discussion Question. Most Discussion forums will have a requirement for the student to post an initial response to the Discussion Question, plus respond to two of your classmates’ posts.

The most common type of forum will only allow the student to post one initial response to the Discussion Question. Click on the “Add a new discussion” button to post a new discussion topic.

When the new discussion post opens, type in a subject, and enter your message into the provided text box. Click on the “Choose Files” button to add an attachment or click on the “Use advanced editor and additional options” link to open the editor in advanced mode. You can simply click on the Submit button to post from the basic editor mode

The advanced mode offers additional formatting options.

Click on the “Post to Forum” button to post your new discussion topic.

You should see the message “Your post was successfully added. You have 30 mins. To edit it if you want to make any changes.”

Replying to a student by opening their post. Click on the title of the discussion topic, in this case: “Free Trade”.

The student’s discussion topic will open. It opens by default to reply to the student’s initial post. Type in your subject and message in provided text box. Click on the Submit button to post your reply. You have the option to post to any student who posted within the discussion topic thread. Click on the Reply button for that student’s post to reply.
